The next meeting of the society will be Thursday, September 19th at 7:00 p.m. This meeting will be in the Reynolds building, Room 103.
If you need additional directions, please phone 445-3240.
Rube Erickson will be showing some of his slides of the night sky, and discussing the equipment used.
We are now registered with Astronomy Magazine and Sky & Telescope Magazine. Both offer a 25% discount (through the club) on their
magazine subscriptions. The cost for one year (12 issues) is $29.00 for Astronomy and $29.95 for Sky & Telescope. To subscribe or extend
an existing subscription bring suitable payment (and your subscription number if you are a current subscriber) to the meeting.
Checks payable to WNCC Foundation-WNAS or Mastercard/Visa are acceptable. Forms to subscribe will be available at the meeting or
are available at the WNCC Foundation office on the Carson City campus.
There were 20 members present at the first meeting on July 18th. The program was an update on the Jack C. Davis Observatory from Robert
Collier. A special thanks to Elsie Dupree for taking minutes of the meeting.
Included in our discussions were opportunities for members to participate in Society activities. We had a number of members sign
up to help develop a newsletter and website. The first meeting for these activities will be called soon. We also had signups to help
people new to astronomy learn about the night sky and equipment.
We will be having monthly star parties, with September 7th and October 5th scheduled for the Model Flying Field off of Flint Drive,
east of Carson City. The star party in August had four telescopes under marginal skies; a thank you to all who joined us.
Another point of discussion was how our membership would like their dues to be used. What are your ideas for using the treasury to
benefit the Society? Bring your thoughts and comments to our meeting on September 19th.
